We had this
chemistry lecturer who always asked me the questions... like What is
the chemical formula for benzene what is the standard name for it.. ?
You know questions like that. But my poor memory always refused to
recollect because first and foremost it never ever used to register!.
The reason I always fond of the concept of alchemy made me
disbelieve in periodic chart itself. But in order to pass chemistry
I had to remember the stuffs which I could not easily do. My mind
only remembered the logically deducible things.
Our chemistry
lecturer was very good at memorizing, he used to ask the question and
make fun of me in the class. I also enjoyed it and never took it
seriously as long as he gave the appropriate marks in the internals.
The funny thing I wanted to share you with was this, he got married!! yes suddenly he got married and went for a week long honey moon. During those period some of his colleagues used to take the classes at-least 3 to 4 of them also constantly changing faces of physics lectures as our physics madam was also pregnant!!
After two-three
weeks chemistry lecture of 7th batch alloysius was back in
action. He walked strait on to the dais with a chalk and a duster in
his hands as always he never had the reference! Why a book when
everything is stuffed in the memory? Well he stopped!! stopped at
stoichiometry, calculation of reactants and products in chemical
reactions did not balance, could remember neither the names nor the
formulas! stoichiometry paused!
With a smile he
borrowed a book from the front row! “well! I forgot the names &
equations! After the week long vacation I don't recollect any thing!”
said he and smiled, we the class laughed out loud! “Bio chemistry worked!!”
whispered an anonymous voice.
Thanks to honey moon..! We were happy, at
least I was happy at that time hoping at least from then on I wont
be asked any questions out of memory!
